View Disease Moves Trough the Body
view on a "common cold"
Probably one of the most important aspects of Ayurveda is its ability to correct the root imbalance of the organism that is causing the symptoms of disease to appear. The root may not be obvious from our Western point of view. For example, the common cold is a symptom of a high level of toxins in the body, and exhibits the bodys ability, or inability, to expel those toxins. Ayurvedically, this it is also an imbalance of kapha flooding the lungs and sinuses. Typically, cold happen during a change of season, when we fail to adapt to the new external forces of nature and continue to eat, dress, and live inappropriately for the new season, thereby creating a higher level of work for the immune system. A cold may be caused by any of the three humors, but will result in aggravating kapha, which will finally flood the upper respiratory system as the immune response is overcome and fails. A cold is a natural function of the body, expelling toxins accumulated through diet and life-style.
