6.5.3 Physical Effects of tastes


SWEET: Is the primary taste for building the body, both in tissue growth and in strengthening the structure. It is soothing in the body and helps harmonize both body and mind. It brings contentment and satisfaction. It helps to increase reproductive fluids; is cooling to the body; commonly found in food, rare in herbs.
Abuse: Overuse of the sweet taste causes obesity, accumulation of toxins, parasites, diabetes, obstructions in the body’s channels, gas, indigestion and lethargy.

SOUR: It is a stimulant to the body, primarily the digestion. It dispels gas, nourishes the body, and builds all tissue except the reproductive tissues. It strengthens the sense organs and causes secretions of fluids in the body; commonly found in foods, rare in herbs.

Abuse: Overuse of the sour taste causes acidity in the small intestine, burning, itching, premature aging, and light-headedness

SALTY:- It is a stimulant, sedative, and a laxative, depending on the quantities used. It softens the body tissues and retains water in the system; it can nullify the other tastes; not common in food or herbs. Abuse: Excess causes inflammation, skin disease, importance, looseness of body, premature aging, and retention of water.

PUNGENT: This is the strongest stimulant aiding the digestion and activating the metabolism. It dispels gas and induces sweating. It is heating to the body and cleans the blood and skin; rarely found in foods, commonly found in herbs. Abuse: Too much pungent taste causes pain, emaciation, burning sensations, fever, thirst, drying of reproductive fluids.

BITTER: The bitter taste is found more in herbs and spices and is the best blood purifier cleaner of toxins in the body. It promotes all the other tastes. It reduces tissues and fluids, and relieves burning in the body. It is strongly cooling to the body; not commonly found in most foods, very commonly found in herbs. Abuse: Excess of bitter causes coldness in the body, nervous disorders, stiffness, colic pain, headaches, and the reduction of reproductive fluids.

ASTRINGENT: Is the best at constricting everything in the body. This makes it valuable as a medicine in that it stops bleeding and discharges. It heals the mucus membranes and the skin. In small amounts it aids the digestion of foods; commonly found in both food and herbs. Abuse: Overuse of astringent causes dryness of the body, constipation, cramps, emaciation, thirst, nervous disorders, and decreased reproductive fluids.
